That the most significant event that took place during 2010 inside the human towers' world is that human towers or castells were added to UNESCO's list of “intangible cultural heritage” is an unquestionable fact. It was on 16 November 2010 when UNESCO declared human towers element of intangible cultural heritage of humanity, as an example of “strength, balance, values and wisdom”.
A Castell is a human tower built traditionally in festivals throughout the Catalan speaking area. In Catalan language, the word castell means castle, however, English media translate this word as human towers. Human towers originated about 200 years ago in Valls, a town near Tarragona city, in southern Catalonia. At present, human towers have a height of 10 people from the ground up. This UNESCO declaration means that the authorities ought to watch over human towers protection.
