CARNAVAL 2011

BARCELONA, 1 March 2011.

CARNAVAL DE SOLSOLSONA: Date:
5th & 6th March.

Carnaval is the traditional period of fun, feasting and partying that precedes the start of Lent. The most important day is Saturday, but throughout Carnaval there are fancy-dress parties, concerts, parades and firework displays. In some places in Catalonia, the changeover from Carnaval to Lent on Ash Wednesday is marked by l’enterrament de la Sardina. This is a grotesque funeral parade in which the symbolic cardboard figure of a sardine is marched through the streets and finally ceremonially burnt or buried. Carnaval has lately enjoyed a revival everywhere in Catalonia, with Solsona being particularly well known for their great sense of humor celebración drawing crowds of people wanting to have a good time.
