Over the next few days will be opened the summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Though opening ceremony is scheduled on August 5, some competitions are going to start some days before.
 
 
 
 
Background
On June 23rd, 1894, Pierre de Coubertin founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the University of Sorbonne in Paris, France. In 1896, the first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens. The Olympic Games are a global multi-sporting event subdivided into summer and winter games. As of 1992 the winter and summer games alternate by two years.

RIO DE JANEIRO 2016 OLYMPIC GAMES
Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will run from August 5 to 21.
OPENING CEREMONY ON FRIDAY
The Rio 2016 Opening ceremony will be at soccer Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on August 5th    
CLOSING CEREMONY ON SUNDAY       
The Olympics will end with a Closing ceremony on August 21st

RIO DE JANEIRO 2016 PARALYMPIC GAMES
The Paralympics feature athletes with disabilities. The Paralympic Games are held in the same year and city as the Olympic Games. As of 2012 it became compulsory for cities that host the Olympic Games to also host the Paralympics. Rio de Janeiro 2016 Paralympics will run on September from 7th to 18th.
