BIG EARTHQUAKE ROCKS HAITI - TERRATRÈMOL DE HAITÍ


BARCELONA, 17 January 2010.

The 2010 Haiti earthquake is a catastrophic magnitude 7.0. Earthquake centred about 25 kilometres west of Port-au-Prince. Striking at 16:50 Haiti time on Tuesday, 12 January 2010. The International Red Cross estimated that about three million people were affected by the quake, and the Haitian Interior Minister believes that up to 200,000 could have died as a result of the disaster. Thousands of injured people wait for care outside damaged hospitals. Basic services like water and electricity are out, Haitian President Rene Preval said his government needs help clearing streets so rescuers can reach some of the hardest-hit areas.
