BARCELONA, 11 January 2012.Pa negre (black bread) is a Catalan novel which, after having enjoyed great success among readers and critics, was adapted for the cinema by Agusti Villaronga. The Catalan film pa negre is set in the harsh nineteen forties of post-war Spain, in a misty atmosphere and in the tone of an industrial and rural drama. This film has received the highest awards in Catalonia and in Spain as well, being chosen as a nominee for the foreign language film Oscar. On September 27th, 2011 Pa negre is chosen to represent Spain in the forthcoming Oscar awards in Hollywood in the Best Foreign Language Film category. The final candidates for the awards will be decided at the end of January, with the Oscar ceremony due to take place on February 26th 2012.
