St. George's Day in Catalonia. La Diada de Sant Jordi, known as el dia de la rosa (The Day of the Rose) or el dia del llibre (The Day of the Book) is a Catalan holiday celebrated on April 23rd. The main event is the exchange of gifts between sweethearts, loved ones and respected ones. On this day men gave women roses, and women gave men a book -a rose for love and a book forever-. Lots of roses and books would be purchased in the name of love. Sant Jordi’s day roses include a spike of wheat and a little red and yellow "senyera," the Catalonian flag, and despite the fact that April 23rd is an official workday; nearly all of Catalunya manages to play hooky ditching the office to take a stroll through the streets.
On Manresa's main street, El Passeig de Pere III, and all over Catalonia, thousands of stands of roses and makeshift bookstalls are set up selling roses and books. It will be in this place, -El Passeig de Pere III- Manresa, where human tower team Tirallongues will carry out a castellera display at 20:00 hour just in front of Kursaal theater, dare to join them!
