Figueres, 4 maig 2008Figueres is a city with a population of some 40.000 residents, situated in the northeastern tip of Catalonia. Figueres is the largest city of the Alt Empordà region, as well as its capital.
By geographical location, Figueres is the trading point of the whole area. Owing to its physical proximity to France, it is also a popular shopping spot for our French neighbors, who find stores quite appealing. The distance separating Figueres from Barcelona is 135 km, Paris 900 km, Rome 1.200 km. The A.V.E ( high speed Spanish train) is scheduled to cross Figueres linking this town to the main European and Spanish cities. Figueres is the birthplace of a number of outstanding celebrities, among which Salvador Dali is the most well-known all over the world.
Local holidays in Figueres are la fira de la Santa Creu, on may 3, and Saint Peter’s day on juny 29.
