LONDON READY TO HOST THE 2012 OLYMPIC GAMES

Barcelona, 25 august 2008.

-BEIJING BIDS FAREWELL TO OLYMPICS-
China brings the curtain down on the 2008 Olympics with a spectacular closing final ceremony in the Bird's Nest Stadium. The inaugural ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games was spectacular but the closing one was not worst at all. The final closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games put the endpoint to two weeks of success. Aside from gold, silver, bronze, new records, winners and losers, the Beijing Olympic Games brought us some amazing sporting moments that will live long in the memory as well as the history books.

AWESOME MOMENTS

1- Usain Bolt: breaks the 100 metres world record. He ran 9.69 seconds.
Breaks Michael Johnson's 200 metres record.
2- Michael Phelps: beats Mark Spitz's record from 1972 of seven golds in a Games.
3- Yelena Isinbayeva: a gold medal and world record-breaking pole vault
she broke her own world mark with a leap of 5.05 metres.
4- USA Basketball team: gold medal.

SPANISH MISTAKE
The Spanish basketball men team headed by Pau Gasol inherited the title as the most controversial basketball team of these Games. Spanish players posed for a picture in a newspaper advertisement that IOC the International Olympic Committee deemed “clearly inappropriate,” because Spaniards had pulled the skin behind their eyes in a gesture that many felt mocked Asians.

Jacques Rogge: IOC president speech at the Closing Ceremony.

Dear Chinese Friends,
Tonight, we come to the end of 16 glorious days which we will cherish forever.
Thank you to the people of China, all the wonderful volunteers and BOCOG!
Through these Games, the world learned more about China, and China learned more about the world. Athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees came to these dazzling venues and awed us with their talent.
New stars were born. Stars from past Games amazed us again. We shared their joys and their tears, and we marvelled at their ability. We will long remember the achievements we witnessed here.
As we celebrate the success of these Games, let us all together wish the best for the talented athletes who will soon participate in the Paralympic Games. They also inspire us.
To the athletes tonight: You were true role models. You have shown us the unifying power of sport. The Olympic spirit lives in the warm embrace of competitive rivals from nations in conflict. Keep that spirit alive when you return home.
These were truly exceptional Games!
And now, in accordance with tradition, I declare the Games of the XXIX Olympiad closed, and I call upon the youth of the world to assemble four years from now in London to celebrate the Games of the XXX Olympiad.
Thank you!.
